I went out at lunch today and made the truck a New Mexican. By taking an early lunch at around 10:45, I even managed to avoid a significant crowd at the MVD. I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes, which pretty much unheard of for one of the public, state run offices.
I went with the new Chile plate. I’ve got a wall full of standard red on yellow New Mexico plates from previous vehicles I’ve owned, and the corvette and escalade had the turquoise state centennial plates, so it felt like it was time for a change.
I also get to ditch the front plate and holder, because we don’t need no stinking front plates in New Mexico. Besides the whole truck being due for a svending, there’s an added benefit of more direct airflow to the intercooler.
These aren’t a bad looking license plate, if I do say so.

NM does good license plates. There isn’t a bad choice among the three standard plates you can choose from without paying extra for the specialty ones.
The centennial plate is my favorite, but it was time for something different.

The turquoise plate is sweet, but this one is just epic.

Here in SC, I don’t see too many of these plates. I did see the chile one on an M4 at C&C once, and it looked awesome.

I’ve always been jealous of NM plates.

I have the old Balloon plate hanging up on my wall. I loved when i saw the old yellow plates they still had the name of the county on them.

I loved name of the county being on the plates. However, I always disliked the balloon plates. A balloon plate could’ve been so cool, but the color pallet they choose for them killed that plate for a lot of New Mexicans. I know very few people who liked them.

Something...something... oppo rules... That aside, I’m not sure why you think I would need to do that. My plates sit out in plain view for anyone to see at any time, and I’m in the phone book. Even if someone didn’t know where I parked at night, connecting those dots is only an IPRA request away. As a physical security professional, you know that well. I’ve never made any attempt to conceal my identity here, and I’m not sure why I would need to. The Chinese already have my security clearance background checks anyway.
